A day out in Raglan
Raglan is the Waikato's favourite beach town, about 45 minutes from the cottage over the Pirongia hills. Here's how to spend a day on the coast.
About 45 minutes from the cottage.
The beaches
Ngarunui Beach is the go-to for learners and families — patrolled black sand with a surf school on the dune. Manu Bay, a little further, is the world-famous left-hand point break where the serious surfers go.
Both are dog-friendly outside the patrolled zones and times — check the local rules and take water.
Bridal Veil Falls
Roughly on the way, the Waireinga / Bridal Veil Falls drop 55 metres in a short, easy bush walk — well worth the stop, with viewing platforms top and bottom.
The town
Raglan town is all cafés, the wharf and a laid-back scene — an easy lunch and a wander before the drive back over the hills to the cottage.
Details can change with the seasons and the tides — check ahead before you set out.
